Self-Employment: Dealing with the Current Recession
You’re probably sick of of hearing about the credit crunch, especially if you’re one of the newly unemployed. You can turn off the TV, but you can’t get away from the actuality that Europe is in a recession and it will be with us for some time.
What can we do?What can be done? The orthodox ways of hunting for a job are not so good when you have 70 other job seekers applying for the same job position. Picking up the newspaper, browsing the unemployment office, etc – you’re just part of the large herd searching for a job in this uninspired way.
You should search for work in ways in which your rivals are few and far between. These days many firms publish job vacancies on their company website, so go to Google and type in key words to identify local firms. Vary your key words between locale only e.g. Tamworth UK jobs, and job type and location e.g. cleaning jobs in Tamworth.
One more idea is to work for yourself – to be self-employed. What we’ve learnt over the last 12 months is that large corporates can go bankrupt very quickly. Self-employment means you control your own destiny, something no staff worker of a company can ever say they have. An important point is that you pick the type of job you love since you will need to motivate yourself everyday.
