Vodafone Updates Roaming Prices for Mobile Broadband

Vodafone, which is the only provider in the UK to offer overseas mobile broadband packages, is unveiling new tariffs, which are much more attractive than the older tariffs. The new tariffs offer this attractive facility to travelers at affordable prices, no matter where they are.

Broadband Genie had recently reported that Vodafone’s current plans – the “Euro Travel” at £60 every month, and “Travel” at £95 per month have been withdrawn. Vodafone has confirmed this news and announced the new packages, which will be applicable from 1st July for those wishing to stay connected to the mobile internet abroad.

The new tariffs are calculated on the basis of location of the users, data usage, and the device that is being used to access the service, i.e. a dongle or a 3G-enabled handset.

Location affects the price through a system of zones – Europe falls in “Zone 1″, Zone 2 is named “World”, and Zone 3, which remains unnamed, is used for diverse places such as parts of Africa, Asia, and South America.

Access using a dongle in Zone 1 would cost £9.99 for a block of 50 MB, the same block of data would cost £29.99 in zone 2, whereas in Zone 3 the costs are significantly higher at £4.99 for up to 1 MB of usage. These prices will be charged on a daily basis (UK time).

Vodafone says that these connections are ideally suited for staying connected while travelling overseas, especially for services like email and surfing – which require minimal bandwidth. However, the service will turn out to be very costly for heavy usage like music and movies. Vodafone has also announced that it would be sending warning messages to users every time a 50 MB block of data is about to end.
